Please can someone advise me on where to find an illustrated index of common programme icons and there properties.Ive spent ages searching but no luck.
I am a bit nervous to just click away at them, the ones im searching for are those icons found in the programme files. Thanks

Hi

Try this:

Right click on one of the Desktop icons, select Properties and then 'Change
icon'. In the 'Look for icons in this file' box type the following:

%systemroot%\system32\shell32.dll

Yes found it I have been here before. Thanks,so going on
from there, for example the first one up is the icon I
have seen described as a DAT/VIF file etc, is there a
directory of actions I can perform with these and other
files and also their definitions

Hi

Do you mean actions on shell32.dll or on the individual icons in that file.
If the latter, then I don't know, because the icons would have to be
extracted first.

I'm not fond of Windows supplied icons. Why not make your
own icon out of a gif? It's not hard! Just open the gif
and save as ICO - Windows icon.
