hi there folks, I am getting near to exam time and am
having trouble working out a formula for commision. i have
25 cells going down the way from c3 to c12 also across the
from c3 to j3. can anyone tell me how to work out 5%
commision for the sales in these cells. many thanx in
advance

I take it you have dollar values in each of these cells and you want to
have the commission (5%) of each dollar value in the same cell. Put .05 in
some empty cell.
Select that cell.
Do Edit - Copy
Select all the dollar value cells
Do Edit - Paste Special
Click on Multiply
Hit Enter
Done

If you want to get the commissions in another range, then first copy all the
dollar cells into that other range. HTH Otto

ooh an exam! which exam is this?

How do you compute commission on 1 cell? Isn't it just a matter of getting
the value of x percent of that number? then you can add those 25 cells up,
and multiply by .x to get the value of the commision.

your question seems overly simple, are you worried about the funny layout of
your cells? if there is nothing occupying the other cells that would make
your pattern into a square, then you can apply the sum formula to the entire
range. C3:J12
