comments box for individual files

Can anyone tell me if in Windows XP there exists anything
like an information window comments box(similar to Mac OS)
in which you can put file specific information which can be
viewed without opening the file or without using the
specific application for the file format.

Right-click file / select 'Properties' / select 'Summary' tab
Enter data in appropriate fields and click 'Apply' and OK

To view (from Explorer) the details that you have entered goto 'View' menu,
select 'Choose Details'

If 'Summary' tab dosen't exist or is grey-out then you can't do said !
