Is there any tool/utility/trick to allow writing of ordinary files (NTFS or
FAT) to DVD at the XP command line?

Windows XP has no native ability to write to DVD at all. You will need
to search for some 3rd party software that would provide the features
you want.

Yes, I've been searching for quite a while. I've been forlornly hoping for
something like an add-in which would provide the functionality :-(

Have you be searching google? Or maybe it's a feature in Nero or some
other burning software.

This is the closest I've seen, thanks - the latter part of your question was
right. Essentially, I'm just trying to write a batch file which will do an
"xcopy" of several folders located on different PCs in a workgroup to DVD.
Command Burner looks nearly there. I've had just a quick look. I'm not sure I
can specify a destination drive. Also, I may not be allowed multiple source
folder parameters with one call of Command Burner, and if I don't, it
overwrites data? I' haven't had time yet ... but thanks.

I can do this with Nero, but I'm not aware of a command line interface with
Nero, although I've not used it enough to be expert. I only want a command
line so I can script it to go behind a great big "Backup" button on the user
desktop ;-)
