Comes out of hibernation by itself

I noticed over the past couple of days, 2 instances where my computer came
out of hibernation - hard disk and fans start up, and welcome screen comes on
- without me pressing the power button, or touching the computer at all.
After a couple of minutes, it shut itself back off. What could be causing
this?

Lan access would cause this. You can turn it off in the computer bios.

Could you explain what you mean by 'LAN access', and how that could make my
computer go in and out of hibernation? I am on a LAN, sharing satellite
connection with our other home computer through a router. Would turning off
the LAN access in the BIOS mess up my internet connection? Thanks for your
help!

There are options in the bios to allow, or disallow
1. Wake on LAN
2. Wake on modem

If you receive a signal from either one of these devices, and you are set to
wake, the computer will wake.

A LAN is constantly sending signals about to check on the status of various
computers. If you receive one of these packets - your computer will wake up
to respond! For instance, this is how system administrators accomplish their
nightly backups if the user shuts down their computer when going home.

If you don't want it to happen - TURN IT OFF!
