combining documents in one fax

We had been using bitfax (bitware) with win98 but that program seems to
cause printer problems with windows xp so we're now using the built in xp
fax program.

With bitfax we were able to combine multiple documents (separate files) into
one fax and send it. With the xp fax program, it seems we have to put all
the documents into one file, making sure that each new document starts on a
new page, in order to send it as one fax.

Is there some other way to do this?

Thanks.

Assuming what you mean is that you want to send in a single fax
transmission, you would either have to create a single document or fax
multiple documents as attachments from Outlook.

I don't think we have outlook - we have outlook express and ms office
(word). Is there a way to add multiple documents with outlook express?

Thanks.

I’ve done it this way.

Print the first file to the “Microsoft Office Document Image Writer.”
This opens a “Microsoft Office Document Imaging” window for the file.

Do the same for several files, and there’ll be several windows: one per
file. You can use
Window > Arrange all
to see all the windows at once on the screen.

Next, we want to combine the pages into a single file. To do this, notice
that each of the “Imaging” windows has a left pane with thumbnails of the
page(s). Using right-click, “Copy” one or more thumbnails from the left
pane of one window and “Paste” it into the left pane of another.
Repeating this several times, the entire fax can be merged into a single
window.

Finally, fax from that window.

Hope this helps. It’s not elegant, admittedly.

If you do this sort of thing a lot, you might want to look into third-party
software like
http://fineprint.com/products/fineprint/index.html
It can (among many other features) combine several print jobs into one,
with fewer steps than using Image Writer.
