combining (adding) sheets (formula problem)

I want to add two sheets together (ie July sales with August sales to get August year-to-date sheet
All info (columns/titles/rows) are exactly the same

The problem is that although the numeric "data" in each spreadsheet adds o.k.; the formulas (simple =sum functions) also add together with pre existing numeric data. In essence double-adding the figure for that cell

I have tried both "values only" and "all" for my add options

What am I doing wrong

how does the formula looks like before your copy procedure and after
the copy procedure. I assume that bot SUM statements are added. One
workaround:
- first 'add' the values (how do you do this? With 'Paste Special -
add')
- After this copy the formulas only from one sheet
