You can mix memory pairs made by different companies. The bios will sync
the memories so that both modules will work with the frequency of the lower
module. Within each pair, they twomodules must be matched, but between the
pairs they can at least bedifferent sizes. If the speeds are different, the
system may run at the
speed of the slower pair.
The amount of memory the box can use is answered for that model on the
manufacturer's site usually with a pulldown by the model number.
Any site where you purchase memory should handle this, and any bricks and
mortar store can as well.
Make sure that the memory fits in the box, and it is appropriate memory
for your pc. There are a number of websites where you can check how much
memory your box can take, and whether the memory is compatible with your pc,
including the site of the pc manufacturer. They have memory advisor tools
and the information that is in the manual on the site, and often memory
upgrade homepages.
Never buy RAM without a lifetime guarantee.
