Com Ports/modem

I am trying to install an OEM Windows 2000 Professional OS
System on a hard drive (actually have tried 5 separate
hard drives) that also has Windows 98Se installed on it.

This basic CD installation installs okay and upon boot up
I can either choose Windows or Windows 2000 Professional
to boot into.

My problem is this: My modem requires com port 5 to
operate. Windows 2000 Professional defaults to Com1 & Com
2 ports. Trying to add more com ports thru device manager
or hardware manager results in yellow exclamation mark
with message indicating com port inoperative. I have un-
installed and re-installed, formatted, wiped, you name it
numerous times each one of these hard drives and OS
systems always with the same result. I can never get more
than 2 com ports to be correctly shown using Windows 2000
Professional.

If I boot into Windows 98Se on any of these hard drives I
have no problem and can add as many com ports as I need
and my modem works fine when installed on com port 5.

Can anyone help me with the proper way to install more
than two com ports using Windows 2000 Professional?

Please reply.

Thank You,

Ron

You might need a modem driver from the manufacturer in order to get the
modem to correctly work within Win2000.
