columns hidden from view

Excel 2001 / Mac question: I am a medical transcriptionist and have a large database of medical terms/definitions. It’s only four columns wide but is 7,633 rows long (only 1.5 meg large).

I had selected one word and, using keystrokes, went to italicize the word. A dialogue box opened, to the effect that I needed a number between 1 and xxxx. I noticed in the format toolbar that font size was changed to 0 (zero). I inserted font size 10, but the only thing that happened is that all filled rows/columns were hidden on all my worksheets in the file. The only thing you can see are the empty columns starting at Columns E, F, etc. I tried using the name box, the “go to†dialogue box and the slider but can not get the column/rows to show. If I use the name box to select one of the hidden cells, I can see the contents in the formula box but can’t change anything. This happened twice before. The first time I shut everything down, rebooted, and everything opened fine. The second time, I had no luck. But I was able to cut-and-paste 250 rows at a time into a new document. But it just happened to this new document. I have tried everything I can think of, but to no luck. I get the feeling I may have hit the wrong keys when I went to select and italicize the one word - that’s the only thing I can think of. CAN ANYONE HELP???? Even my backup copy made two days ago opens with my filled rows/column hidden.

Jeanie,

I didn't follow your question exactly, but if you want to send me your
spreadsheet with a description of what you want done, I'll try to help.
