HELP!!!
Is too late for me to do something to prevent a "Blue Screen."
I got one!
I thought I could just update from Windows 2000 to Windows xp in my old
laptop (Dell Inspiron 2500) It went through until the final step when, it
turned off and on, and windows xp began to load then, I got a nast message"
STOP:C000021A (Fatal System Error)
The Session Manager Initialization System Process terminated unexpectedly
with a status of 0x0000005 (0x0000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shutdown.
Can anybody help me with this???

my son tried to install sp2. it failed. we went to the recover panel and
tried to go back to 12/31 (before the update. after about 1 hour the system
rebooted it self. the xp logo comes up once and then a second time. then i
get the blue screen with c0000135...... winsrv not installed. panic time
since my son's homework is on the machine. i tried f8 and "start in last
known configuration", no luck. safe mode, no luck.

i need help before my son kills me.
 
the problem is that i do not get to a place where i can use any of this
suggestions. once i get the blue screen, i do not have access to Start or
any other of the windows tools. even in safe mode i can not get to a mode
where windows is accessible.
 
What you have to do is boot from your the Windows XP installation
CD. If the manufacturer of your computer didn't provide you with
an XP disc or they gave you a "Recovery" disk (meaning one that
wipes out everything on your hard drive) then this won't work.

If you've got an installation CD, try this first. Put the disk in
your CD drive and restart the computer. When it restarts you may
see a message "Press any key to boot from CD". Go ahead and do
that. You can then use the Recovery Console route to get started
uninstalling SP2.

If you don't see the message about booting from the CD then
you're going to have to get into the PC's setup program and
change the order of your boot devices. You might want to check
the documentation that came with your computer on how this is
done. If you don't have access to this information then you can
create boot floppies by downloading the appropriate file from
Micrososft here:

If you don't have a floppy drive on your PC, then your going to
have to change the BIOS settings and boot directly from the CD.

If you're able to boot from the CD then follow the Recovery
Console instructions detailed here:

If you still can't get things fixed through the recovery console
then you may want to try a repair installation. Take a look here

Is it possible to use Roxio GoBack 4.00 (purchased as a unit of Norton
Systemworks Premiere 2005) without it causing problems with XP SP2? I had the
System Restore turned off before installing it, and didn't have a problem
with it until I installed SP2. After installing it, I get the dreaded blue
screen after sending or receiving any fax. I couldn't find any help or
documentation on Microsoft's Knowledge Base, or on Symantec's.

I have tried twice to download SP2, each time caused system instability xp
home (no blue screen), my computer would just lock up. I have a dell
inspiron 8100 and xp home came with it. Both times I ended up with hours of
tech assistance from dell tech support and had to reload my operating system
(wipe my hard drive). In December 2004 I asked dell tech support if they
were recommending downloading of SP2 yet and they said no. It seems to me
that there is much more of a problem with SP2 than microsoft is willing to
acknowledge. Before the second time I downloaded SP2 I was very careful to
follow all of the instructions of what to do before downloading SP2; I still
ended up with the same problem and had to reload the operating system. Of
course both times dell tech support tried to go back to a previous save point
but it wouldn't work.
So, I would like to get the latest upgrade to xp home with the SP2 but you
can understand my reluctance, suggestions?

Is it possible that if a problem is present with the WMI provider
(specifically: a portion of WMI is shown as access denied), this would cause
a severe slowdown after SP2 is applied?

I am not real computer savy, but blue screen doesn't seem to be the problem
that I was experiencing; my computer would just start slowing down until it
would just lock up, no "blue screen" if that is a actual discription. I read
Denny Atkins article but it didn't seem to apply to my situation.

The article does not address whether a problem with the WMI provider can
cause a slowdown. Here is an update:
I corrected the issue with SP1 installed and updated to SP@. SP2 reset the
permissions on the WMI provider to the point that no access was granted to
the SYTEM account or any other admin level account and the system went from a
few seconds to respond to a mouse click to a 15 minute delay when opening a
program. The initial boot into the system was 30 minutes or better.

All updates but SP2 were applied to the system including updated video,
sound, etc. drivers.

This one is most curious.

I disabled GoBack, and still had the problem. I have removed GoBack, and can
now send and receive faxes without crashing. This is the first conflict
(actually first long-running problem) that I have had on Windows XP since I
bought my computer. XP has been very reliable and Microsoft's Knowledge Base
has helped me with many of my minor problems, up until this one.

everytime i try to install sp2 from ms website at different stages of
installation
my computer freezes.

i have been trying for 2 days to complete the install.
i did all the critical updates prior

i did have sp2 installed but had to re install winxp pro due to
none of the .LNK on desktop or any programs could be launched
this may have been due to an unexpected freeze resulting
from the installation of NERO BURNER ( external burner)
when the power cord was unplugged to cd burner.

so for 3 days i have been rebuilding.
all files stayed on computer but all software had to be re installed.

wow ...

what a drag

I've seen a similar error in german reported on

Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem? I really want to
install SP2 in order to install other Microsoft products.

First go to the laptop mftr.'s website and see what patches, comments
they have about upgrading to SP2 on your specific model. That may
answer the question right there. Otherwise, I would contact their tech
support people as this may be a known issue with your model and they
will know the workaround/solution. Laptops are *very* proprietary, both
with their hardware and software.
