Recently I had to reformat my hard drive. Losing alot of
things. But when I was starting everything back up I
noticed I can't put my screen resolution to 1024 By 768.
It appears I don't have the colour quality 256. I don't
know how to get it back. I usualy have my computer on
1024 By 768 but I can't because it just flickers near the
bottom of files etc.
I also noticed my 'Stand By' Botton on 'Turn of my
computer' has been shaded grey, so I can't use it. What
does this mean? and how will I get colour quality 256, is
there any place where I could download it? And I do have
a graphics card that can handle it because I had it
before.

256 colors is not shown by default, because on modern software it just looks
bad. However, you can get it if you really want it by right clicking on the
desktop, selecting properties, going to the settings tab, clicking on the
advanced button, going to the Adapter tab, and then clicking on List All
Modes.

From the advanced dialog you were at from the first part, go to the Monitor
tab and set the refresh rate to the highest option listed.

That means that one of your hardware drivers (software to make your computer
talk to the hardware) does not support this feature. Try going to your
manufacturer's website to get the latest drivers.

Wait a minute - are you saying that your graphics is even WORSE than 256
colors? Do you have only 16 colors? Then you probably need to go to the
website of your graphics card and download the latest drivers. If you bought
your graphics card as a part of your comptuer, then you can head to the
manufacturers' website to grab them.
