I have just bought a new multifunction printer...24 hrs old.....Brother
DCP-115c....
It prints well, but the colour is not true......I am printing some
scrapbook papers off the net, & the colours are very muted/washed
out......
This is fine for the project I am currently doing, but I have another
in mind , that will require that the colours are bright...
I have increased the colour adjustment to full strength, but it hasnt
helped the problem....
Any ideas?????

Hi.

Your problem sounds like you need to start applying Colour Management.

This will counteract the colour and density inaccuracies which esist in your
Monitor, Printer, etc. It will use ICC Profiles to bring them all to the
correct standard, so that your screen will show the same colours as any
other Colour Managed Screen. Your Printer and the paper you are printing
onto, will also have a Profile applied to produce accurate colour on the
print.

It is not easy, but it is not all that difficult either.

And exactly which printer should she then buy, which does not need an ICC
Profile ???

Or perhaps she needs to keep the Printer and send back her Monitor, because
that is what is making the colour look wrong.

Or perhaps she needs to send both back, and just get you to make her prints.

Idiot.

Have you tried printing on any of the papers recommended for that
printer?
http://welcome.solutions.brother.co..._ot/en/colormfc/dcp115c_eu_as/spec/index.html

Plain Paper: Brother Inkjet Paper BP60PA
Matte Paper: Brother Matt Inkjet Paper BP60MA
Glossy Paper: Brother Premium Glossy Photo (210 X 297 mm) BP60GLA
Brother Premium Glossy Photo (102 X 152 mm)BP60GLP

Also, make sure the printing mode matches the type of paper. The
solutions site above has this note:

"Maximum dpi color output achievable when using highest quality mode
and printing on Glossy paper. (See User's Guide for more details.)"

.... so, for example, you might not get good results when using the
highest quality mode on plain paper.

Boy, I wish I was as smart as you.

Chances are the problem here is the type of paper in use. The output
that an inkjet printer provides is dependent upon the ink formulation
and paper. Specially coated papers (matte, semi gloss, and glossy) are
available which work with specific ink types (even the generic inkjet
papers that indicate "works with all inkjet brand printers" will work
best with certain printers.

Even some of the less costly uncoated inkjet printer papers may give you
better results than your scrapbook paper (BTW, Epson makes a special
inkjet scrapbook paper that is likely coated)

Since I don't believe Brother makes their own branded paper, you may
need to experiment a bit. Look into Epson photo quality inkjet printer
paper, or the double sided type, or the Epson matte Heavyweight paper.
Or speak with Brother and see if they can provide some paper
recommendations. You may also need to experiment with the printer
settings once you find a better paper to use, to find the right settings
to get correct ink distribution for the paper surface.

I had no idea Brother branded inkjet papers, so this is good to know. I
don't know that I have ever seen their papers marketed in Canada.
