Do you have a CRT monitor? If yes, the red gun has probably failed. To
troubleshoot, attach the computer to a different monitor. If everything
appears as it should, then replace your original monitor.

If you have a laptop, contact the laptop mftr.'s tech support for
repair/replacement.

Hi thanks for replying. I have a TFT flat screen monitor does that
same advice apply.

No. Flat panel monitors don't work the same way as CRT's. You should
attach the computer to a different monitor to determine if the problem
is with the monitor or video card. If the problem "travels" to the test
monitor, then it is time to troubleshoot the hardware and also the
settings.

To troubleshoot the hardware, uninstall the current video card and swap
it out for a known-working one. If you still have the problem, then you
know you've got some software settings causing the issue. If the
problem is gone, then you know it is time to replace the original video
card.

In the meantime, the first question to always ask when troubleshooting
is "what changed between the time things worked and the time they
didn't?". So ask yourself this. Did you install a third-party theming
application? Do something graphics-related? Update video drivers? Etc.

Let's not forget about loose cables.

The first thing to try is to be sure the cable from the monitor to the
computer is plugged in tightly. If that doesn't fix it, you probably need a
new monitor, but first try it on another computer to be sure.

Yes, loose cables and bent pins are also a good thing to check. "Have
you tried turning it off and on again?" ;-)

The most likely cause is that you have lost the 'Red' signal ( out of the
three color signals - RED, BLUE, GREEN ) going to the monitor. The most
common cause is a broken wire in the cable from the computer to the monitor.
Does the cable make any sharp turns, especially near the connectors at the
two ends? Do you often move the monitor or computer?

The quickest and easiest check is to try a known good monitor with your
computer and to try your present monitor with a known good computer. If the
cable is not permanently attached to the monitor you could try swapping with
a known good cable.
