does anyone know how many colors (eg 256, 16million etc) does internet explorer
actually support?
i am starting out in graphic design for the web and have purchased the color
harmony book for the web, but the info there is out of date.

IE should support 32-bit colors without any problems, but it all depends on
if the image displayed is using IE's rendering or a helper-application, such
as Irfanview to display certain image file types. IE, for instance, has
some issues with .png images:
