Okay so there is no way to FULLY import my old web site to FP, now I am
rebiilding my web from scratch and I ran into my first minor problem, maybe
someone knows something:

1) I sell allot of products on the internet and in my previous program I
could colorize my web pages (in the nav view) based on whether the items were
in the store or in auctions, I can;t seem to find this type of option in FP
2003

2) Is there a 1 flag, 1 button switch i can use to flag a page for auction
sale and then for store sale and change in part the template/ page or format
to include the small but suttle differences?

3) I just bought FP 2003 and I am hearing rumors that support for it is
about to expire!, am i scre^#%@ and should return it and wait for the NEW
publisher or whatever replaces it or will MS give me some reasonable rebate
on its replacement of FP.

Yes you can import *everything* in to a new FP web. File import, then
select the files and/or folders to be imported.

Not sure what your subject line has to do with your specific questions....?

In answering your questions:

To import a web:

You can (or should be able to) import the site fully to a new web. It
appears you were using a web design program other than frontpage, and hence
you're experiencing problems?

To create a FP web, you first need to create a folder with a relevant name
(the name of your site, whatever it is).

Then In Frontpage, go to File > Open Site... and browse to the folder you
just created, select it and click "Open" FP will add its files that it
requires. then you can go and import the old web from whereever that is.
If it is online, and you have the FP extensions installed, you can publish
down to your hard drive by opening the live web through Frontpage. If the
FPSE are not in use, just FTP the files to another folder on your harddrive
(the name of the "old" site). Then in FP use the File > import command to
import the files into the "new" web.

Regarding flagging "auction" and "Store" items:

I'm not sure what your last program was that did this, but I expect you'd
have to do some server side scripting to identify your products as "auction"
or "store". I don't know enough about what you're trying to achieve to
advise further.

Regarding future of Frontpage:

Frontpage is being phased out, yes; that does not mean you have to stop
using it when Expressions WebDesigner (its successor) comes out.

Support for FP will be around for a while yet ('til 2014 or thereabouts), if
you need Microsoft support. Mostly it depends if your host will still
support/install/supply the server extensions which you might require for
your FP web (of course Frontpage can still be used for web design and you
can use third-party equivalents of the FP components like form handler,
guestbooks etc if the FPSE are not provided).

As far as a "rebate" goes, I suppose if you consider it in the context that
you can purchase the Upgrade edition of Expressions as opposed to the more
expensive full edition, then yes, you will get a "rebate" (in terms of the
saving you make on buying the upgrade vs the full edition) Frontpage is a
qualifying product for the upgrade to Expressions.

HTH.

I know I sound like a newbie but I was spoiled by another web design program
and now cannot get the same features from FP.

I did try everything to get my web site from the server on the internet to
my computer but failed, I tried ftp, passove ftp and local import from my hd
and got a variety of error messages.

I use yahoo to host my website and ftp keeps giving me strange messages like
"Z xxxx" failure, i have a message thread about it and no one has a clue.

So I have had to begin the ardeous rebuilding of my website from scratch and
discovered that organizational methods are not adequate in FP.

SO my other question is in the navigation tree where you have a hiearchy
diagram of your website, can I EASILY flag, tag, or set options where I can
select 10 of the 20 pages (lets say) to be store items, so that if I change 1
store item the change will reflect on all the items in the group, and/or
change that flag to instantly reformat that item to another group and maybe
even add colors to my items diaplyed on the navigation panel so i can easily
identify what belongs to which group

I ask this because my last web designer program had this features and I used
it to organize things.

Thank you
Michael

No, FP doesn't have any support for organization of the site.

Do you think MS expressions would, I might elect to endure my old software
programs bugs which i got accustomed to rather then learn the new bugs in FP
if in the long run it is a step down from where I am now.

IS MS expressions in trial now, can i get hold of maybe a Beta!
