While I was playing Star Wars Galaxies. They will show up on the desktop when I scroll a page. I have a HP Ultra VGA 1280, refurbished. It's worked fine for years, but recently I've noticed a blurring of text near the left edge. I'm using a Radeon 9700 Pro and Win2k. All drivers are up to date. Any ideas?

I'm guessing you video card has issues. Does the problem always happen, or does it wait until the machine
has been on for awhile (i.e., it gets warm).

It waits until it's warm. I installed older drivers and still had the
problem. I've just installed new drivers, but haven't had a chance to see
what happens yet.

Seems like video card is overheating... check the fan, clean and lube it
if applicable. Consider leaving the first PCI slot under the AGP, empty,
and that case slot bracket cover off to allow more airflow past the card.

If that is not enough, supposing your ambient room temps are now higer due
to summertime or winter and proximity to a heater vent, etc, then you may
need move machine or improve chassis airflow.

It could be that long-term heat has damaged the card, or handling has
introduced or worstened a cold solder joint that is now sensative to heat.
If fan seems working correctly still you might also consider whether card
is covered by a warranty, if it can be replaced.

Thanks. I have a lot of cooling fans, but they probably need cleaning.
I'll give the whole thing a once over.
