Hi,

Getting a greenish blue "smear" down one side of my scans on a Genius
Colorpage Vivid III USB.

Lamp seems ok, I imagine this has something to do with the CCD pickup.

Is there anything I can do to fix this, apart from getting a new one.

I am sure this has happened to other people, thanks in advance.

What are you scanning Negative or Print? I've seen that happen if light is
leaking around the side of the negative.

Scanning from print.

Many greenish/blue lines down about 1/4 of the image.

Not strong lines though, more of a fade pattern.

Almost sure this is a CCD problem, internals look clean with no
contamination.

The twain for this scanner does not appear to calibrate, or have any
function to do so.

Cathode lamp appears ok.

Have a newer Canon LED scanner I can use, but the Genie was faster, would be
a shame to lose it.

Here's a pic, notice along the lower edge.

Looks to me like there is a hair or dust speck in the optical system....on a
mirror or the sensor lens. At the least, you'll have to remove the cover glass
and use "Dust Off" or something similar to clean the path. This is not for the
faint of heart, because you can easily destroy the scanner completely if you
aren't familiar with this kind of disassembly and repair work. On the other
hand, it can certainly be done successfully, if done carefully. Search the web
for disassembly instructions for your machine....good luck
