Color schemes like coat hangers

I have a simple slide deck in V07 that was probably inherited from V03. The
colors drop-down menu shows a group of 12 color schemes, in the This
Presentation category (which I had never seen before) all named Default
Design X, numbered 1 - 12.

Where did these come from and how do I get rid of them?

They came from 2003. Each file in 2003 has color schemes, and the default is
to have about 12 of them. Each one shows up as a different color scheme in
2007. You may not be able to tell it exactly, though, because they don't
translate very well from 2003 to 2007 and vice-versa.

Thanks, that's what I suspected. I don't want any of them--how do I axe
them? How do I position the file to use the V07-blessed schemes?

You'll need to choose one of the 07 schemes.

As for getting rid of the 03 schemes, I'm not sure. Right-click doesn't give
a delete option. You might have to edit the XML.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. Before reading your reply, I did indeed
dive into the XML and found a file listing each instance of the Default
Design, and I could recognize that they were color schemes. So I deleted the
entire .xml file, reopened the .pptx, allowed PowerPoint to complain about
missing elements but ultimately told it to shut up and continue, and voila,
all of those old schemes were gone.

Then I read your reply -- choose an '07 theme. Well, that's way too easy!
<g>

The issue there is that choosing a theme changes the design, but the one
called Office changes only the typefaces, so I could create a font scheme
first, change the theme, and then reload the font scheme.

I'll have fun writing this up...!
