my monitor is not showing the color red. I've tried changing the settings and red is not even an option. any suggestions?

Check the video cable to see that it is securely plugged in. If that doesn't
help try another monitor to see if it is the monitor or the video card that
is causing the problem.

Greetings --

Well, if the video cable from the monitor to the video card is
securely fastened, and has no bent pins, it's probably time for a new
monitor. Try to borrow one to test the video adapter before buying a
new monitor, though, as there's a very small chance that it could be
the video adapter that's failed.

It's a simple thing to fix if it's the monitor. Just get someone to resolder the connections on the back of the tube (takes 30 seconds). Be careful as the tube is lethal (REPEAT LETHAL) till a few minutes after it's unplugged.

you should see a compaq monitor go classic green. like pea
soup that been around awhile and starting to glow.

I have seen it. This is my first monitor where all the guns work without soldering.

There are many, many other components besides the back of the picture tube.
