color coding a vendor

What is the formula for color coding a vendor

Basically, I have a column of vendors that are the lowest bidders of 1000 products. I would like to highlight each vendor with a specific color. For example... if Vendor 1 was the lowest bidder for 250 products, his name is highlighted in light pink, vendor 2 was the lowest bidder for another 50 products, his name is highlighted in light blue... etc

I think I would just do Data > Filter > Autofilter to select the top
vendor(s) individually and then just do the color coding by hand as a
block............If you were to use Conditional Formatting, you could only
get 3 (maybe 4) conditions, otherwise, would require a macro which could get
large depending on how many vendors/colors you need.......
