My office recently upgraded to XP. As I was customizing, I found the Vortex desktop I use at home and decided to use it at work also. But after selecting it, the text under my Desktop Icons changed colors and a colored rectangular "box" appears around the text. The text is usually white and stands out against the solid color "box" that is generated around it. It looks really cheesey abd takes away from the Desktop I selected. Now, no matter what color I select for appearance, I can't get rid of the "box." At times it's a dark box with light text, at times a light box with dark text, but it doesn't go away. Worse yet, selecting something other than Vortex doesn't solve the problrem . . . the boxes persist. Help!

Transparent Icons:

Start/Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Settings/ Visual
Effects/"Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop"

Also:

Right click the desktop and select Arrange Icons by. Towards the bottom of
that list, uncheck "Lock web items on the desktop."

Desktop Text Color:

By default in XP, it can't be manually changed. The text changes on its own
from dark to light depending on the color of the background. It is based on
the Desktop color not the Wallpaper. The combo is whether or not you are
using a Wallpaper and what the Desktop color is.

Right click the My Computer icon on your desktop, go to Properties,
Advanced, Performance, Settings, Visual Effects and put a check in the box
in front of: Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop.

Transparent text under icons - ALT+0160

Right click the icon in question, choose Rename, hold down the ALT key and
type 0160 from the keypad.
