Color Background around desktop icons

  • Thread starter Thread starter Lane

Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance. Check the box for Use drop
shadows for icon labels on the desktop. If that doesn't correct the issue,
right click the Desktop, select Properties, Desktop, Customize Desktop, Web
tab. Uncheck any web content.

What OS are you using? Windows 9x? There are many, MANY utilities that
will make the text transparent and most of them are freeware. Some of them
only do it once and the box comes back when something happens that needs the
desktop to update, so I would recommend the ones that stay in the background
and make it transparent whenever required. There's a program called
disappear.exe from Integrated Electronics Systems; it's pretty good (the one
I always used). An even better one is SeeThru, an old PC Magazine utility.
It's wonderful and I highly recommend it. Unfortunately PC Magazine got
lame and greedy and started charging for access to their utilities but you
can still find it in many places, just do an Internet search for
SEETHRU.ZIP.

Because this newsgroup is microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize, I would assume the OP is using Windows XP.

In Windows XP (this does not work on earlier versions of Windows):
-right-click on My Computer, select properties, then Advanced Tab
-under Visual Effects, turn on "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the
desktop" - this puts a small shadow around the text, but leaves the rest of
the box around the text transparent.
-This often does not look all that good on LCD screens - makes the text look
"blurry"

True, but then XP already makes the background transparent and it did
not sound like a Web items thing.
