I just bought the P4P800 and it works just fina except for this one
thing, sometimes it doesn't start when I push the power on button. In
order for me to get it going I need to use the power switch on the
power supply and wait about 30 seconds, turn the power on for the
power supply, hit the power switch and the mobo comes alive... I've
upgraded to the latest BIOS to no avail.

Anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone with a solution?

I had the exact same problem. check your RAM. the P4P800 is pretty
particular when it comes to RAM. I ended up installing Kingston
memory modules (recommended in Users Manual), and the system boots up
like a charm.

Well I have Kingston memory CP3200 512 MB and it's nothing wrong with
it (I've run memcheck). And I allways get the darn thing to boot after
I turned the power supply off/on and then it can run for days so the
memory can't be faulty.

How good is your power supply?

Here's my recent experience with the asus P4P800 motherboard:
I was originally going to build a PC by stripping my existing PC and reusing
its case. I bought a new PSU (Q-Technology 300w) for the build. Wanting a
quiet PSU I decided that the Q-Technology PSU would meet my needs after
reading a review of it
(http://www.burningissues.net/hardware/PSU01/Q-tech300WPSU01.htm). Later I
decided to retain my existing PC and bought a new case instead (Lian Li
PC-60). That came with its own PSU, also rated at 300w. So I had two
identically rated PSUs. Having spent good money on the Q-Tech low noise PSU,
I replaced the one that came with the case with the Q-Tech unit. My new PC
had serious cold boot problems. Sometimes I had to try 10 to 20 times before
the system would boot. Sometimes it would boot for a few seconds then die.
It was clearly not a usable system. I tried suggestions from this newsgroup
(ref: P4P800 wont turn on!) to no avail and was ready to send the
motherboard back. Then, I thought that I may as well try the PSU that came
with the case, and hey presto! the system started booting very time it was
switched on. No more problems! Have been using it for about a week now and
am very happy with it.

Power Supply can cause a cold boot problems. I had a friend solve his
problem this way. I use nothing but PC Power & Cooling power supplies. I
have a Asus P4PE and never had the cold boot problem. My friend had a Antec
and changed to a PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 510 Watt and solved the cold
boot problem. I also use the 510 watt from them.

I'll add a me to. Rock solid but pricey which people try to avoid by
getting cheap junk and suffering, maybe not today but eventually.
I hefted a cheapie 400 yesterday and it was like puffed rice in the
box, the PS&C was like lead in comparison.

You get what you pay for. I will pay the extra cash not to have problems
because PSU problems are hard to trouble shoot. The 510 Watt PSU are heavy.
