Hello,

When I am booting up XP from cold, the hard drive always clicks once or
twice then the operation freezes. I then do a reset and 9 times out of 10 XP
loads correctly.

I bought a new hard drive because I thought the clicking meant it was on its
last legs but the same happens on the new one.

I ran CHKDSK on start up as I saw on here it cured the problem for others,
but it hasnt worked for me.

Any suggestions please.

Peter

I would enable boot logging(start/run, type:)
HH mk:@MSITStore:%windir%\Help\diagboot.chm::/boot_overview.htm

I don't think it will tell you much, but at least it will eliminate the
other things. I believe you are seeing some form of BIOS trouble. I would
look at your BIOS setup detail for some indication.

Sorry, what do I type?
