When I got my Window's 2000XP, it was supposed to have everything in it for playing game's. Now I get a sign on one particular game that I need a Codecs. What is it, or where can I find it? Thank you. Nanette ps Happy Holiday's

Hi Nanette,

Most codices are pre-included with Windows XP. The Indeo
Codec is sometimes absent and I think that might be the one
you need. You can download it FREE from this web link:
http://softwareupdates.roxio.com/gm/Products/en/videowave_mc/v1/IndeoXPSP1.exe

When the download box pops up, click Save. After it's saved
click OPEN to install the Codec onto your system. Good Luck! :-)

A Codec is pretty much a compressor/decompressor, a codec is any technology
for compressing and
decompressing data. The Codecs that you care about are mostly used for
video and audio compression.
Some popular codecs for computer video include MPEG, Indeo and Cinepak

Nanette195:

The dialog box that says you need a CODEC should mention a
particular one. Run the game again to get its name then start here to
find/download/install the one you are missing.

http://www.fourcc.org/

Click on Video Codecs from the left column.

The most common missing CODEC is Indeo which is likely the one you
need:

http://premiumracing.50megs.com/IndeoXPcodec5.2.exe

Run your anti-virus scanner on any file you download before you
install it... (usually you right-click the file and choose "scan with
.... [whatever AV program you have installed]").

Come back if none of the above helped.

Happy trails,
