codecs?

Hi i don't know if this is the right place to put this but does any one know where to get codecs from. I need a divX codec and the ones i have tried downloading have installed toolbars on my internet home page. I have windows media player 10 and i thought it would automaticly download the codec needed but all it says is it can't find the right one. Please can anyone point me in the right direction all help would be gratefully accepted

codecs

managed to find one it comes with a player and a file called divX movies, but how do you play films with it? Do you drag them into the file or should it just work, or could it have something to do with the file it is trying to play, because i have had a few that wouldnt work then wouldnt let me delete them. If any one has any ideas i would be very grateful and for the people already helping thanks a lot you've been great.

if you downloaded the divx player, right click the file and click open with, then go to divx player
