ok, I am all new to this, but I decided to try my hand at video editing. I
ripped some footage off dvds using Virtualdubmod. Now when I try opening them
up in Window movie maker v2.1, it says I don't have the correct codec
installed. Can anyone tell me which codec I should be using?! >_<

I found helpful links to solve my codec problems in Chris Lanier's response
to "Too Many Codecs" 1-17-2005 above

HEllo,

Movie Maker can not work on MPeg or MP3 files you must convert them to DV-AVI
or use Nero 6 to re-edit the files with no loss of quality (if you are doing no
more than a cut) and burn them back to DVD with your own menu system

Try installing the Windows Media 9 Video Compression Manager (VCM)...
there's a link on my Setup > Other Software page.

When installed, the WMV9 codecs will be available as compression choices in
VDubMod to compress an AVI file with.

Hello,

Take note that if you convert any of your files to DV-AVI and intend to
re-compress for placement on a DVD you will incur some loss of quality
