Codec problem

Something's wrong here; I'm trying to put some videos together but whenever I
try to import them into WMM, it says:

[File Location/Name] could not be imported. The required codec was not
downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box
is not selected in the Options dialog box.

It sounds like an easy enough problem to fix, but where's this so-called
'Options dialogue box'?

In Movie Maker click Tools -> Options
Click the "General" tab
1/2 way down you will see a checkbox labeled "Download codec's
automatically"

I have the same problem with importing and missing codec - I doesn't work
with this checkmark either !

What to do then ?

What type of video are you trying to import?

A MPG from a small videocam and I have tried to convert it to WMV with
WM-Encoder with no luck.

MM should play the MPG-format and it's set to automatically get missing
codecs :-((

The file displays very well in WinAmp and Mediaplayer.

It is quite typical for MPG's to be problematic with WMM. Sometimes they
work and sometimes they don't and even when they do you tend to have other
problems with them at some point in the process.

Converting them is the best answer whether it be to WMV or AVI. For other
converting options check out this website:
