I have got quite a few MOV files that I want to load into windows movie
maker. I did this with complete success a few weeks ago, but am now unable
to do it. I converted the files into MPG files with TMPEnc, and no probs,
but now CANNOT get the converted files to load. AAAAAAAAAAARGGGH!

The files play in Power DVD ok, so I know they are no corrupted. If I try
and load them into Movie Maker, I get an error telling me that the correct
codec is not installed.

I have tried loading the codecs onto the system, but still no success. I
also note that the files *DO* play correctly in Windows Media Player.

What do I need to do????? I think the error is with movie maker, but cant
seem to remove it/reinstall it

Please help!!

Thanks NIck

Nick,

You made MPEG2 files with TMPGEnc and MM2 doesn't work with such files, or
doesn't work well with them...

If your goal is to get MOV files into Movie Maker, then using Rad Video
Tools to convert them to AVI is the path to take...... you can also use
TMPGEnc to convert your MPEG2 files to AVI.

See the Importing Source Files section of my website.

Thanks for your help John - will give it a try.

I'll let you know how I got on!

Thanks

Yes, works fine, but the file sizes are HUGE! Is there a way to get the MPG
files to work? I think I may have to reinstall the correct codec, as with
all my fiddling, the input files that used to work no longer do. (By the
way, the error message is exaxtly the same as the one on your website).

I need VERY easy, step by step instructions!!!!!

Many Thanks
Nick

Another post from me!

I installed the codecs from Ligos, and everything works fine again!

Is the 30day restriction just on the player, or the codecs as well. If so,
where can I reinstall the origional codecs from?

Many Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,

The size of the AVI file from TMPGEnc depends on the codec you pick.

See the table I have on the Importing Source Files > Video > Recorded TV
page of my site. It shows file sizes, rendering time, and a subjective
assessment of quality...

Maybe the table will give you some ideas about what codec to pick.

The page also gives you the closest that can in step by step instructions.
