codec errors

i resently downloaded some vidio files of my freinds band off winmx. but every time i try to play them i get "error downloading codec" and it only plays the audio, or i'll get a prompt saying file type not supported. how do i fix this?

Hi,

These are the most popular codes that most users seem to be missing (as they
are not included with Windows):

Divx: http://www.divx.com/divx/
Xvid: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html

In WMP8, you need to run a fairly complicated procedure to detect the name
of the missing codec, in WMP9 the error message will tell you which one.
Just try installing both of them first.
