I tried it and when it repeated what I had written and asked Yes/No? I typed
Yes and it said access denied. Did I do something wrong or what, thanks for
your help.

An 'access denied' message usually means you don't have administrator
permissions. After you have type 'cmd' into the search box on the start menu
'right' click on the command prompt and select the 'run as administrator'
option and the solution again.

The whole idea is to delete the registry key, so when asked Yes/No you would
have to type Yes, so you haven't done anything wrong it just seems like a
permissions problem.

I did that and now I get err 80004002. Why can't I run updates the old way. I
guess it is just me, but seems like your hands are tied with Vista.

It appears that your problem doesn't have a valid solution, I'm afraid.
Researching the topic I have noticed that Microsoft have been suggesting
that you re-install Vista using the upgrade option (this is to keep all your
software etc intact). Unfortunately I haven't come across a surefire remedy
for this problem. I can only advise that you email Microsoft technical
support and ask their advice.

You're Welcome. I'm only sorry I couldn't have been of more help.
