Code 39 error

I am having a problem with my cd drive. It is missing and comes up as a code
39 error. I have used the resolution for the code 39 ie delete the filters,
but I still have the problem. I did find that I only had Upper filters and
not Lower filters - is this the problem. Any help would be great.

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19,
Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060

Though it mentions "after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP" other
causes exist.

That's why it is critical to either backup or export and save registry
entries before you change anything there.

This is only a shot in the dark but see if you can uninstall your optical
drive via device manager and reboot, hopefully on the reboot your drive will
be reinstalled. If this happens again (likely) use this automated registry
script that will remove the upper/lower filters without you using regedit.

P.S. Dougknox.com is a great site bookmark it.

Good Luck.

You should be able to add the key back, just follow that microsoft KB
article in reverse.
