My wireless keyboard plugged into a USB port on my main monitor stopped
working. I plugged it into a USB port on my second monitor and it works fine.

Device manager now has a yellow exclamation mark on a "Generic USB Hub" and
the properties show "The device cannot start. Code 10."

This seems to describe a similar problem
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933442/en-us) except the problem was not
caused by disabling the device. At any rate, I got the referenced hotfix and
it did not solve my problem.

I've also tried rebooting, disabling and enabling the device, and
uninstalling the driver and letting Vista reinstall it but none of this
solves the problem.

Note that this is not a problem with the keyboard driver but rather the USB
driver.

I've searched these forums and Google but no luck. Found quite a bit on a
Code 10 related to cd/dvd drives and a problem with Itunes, but not much on
my problem.

One suggestion for a similar issue in XP was to unplug all USB devices, then
uninstall all drivers for all USB ports, then reboot to reinstall the
drivers. But I don't understand why this might be more effective that just
unistalling the single driver as I have already tried.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Apparently, it's fairly specific to a Dell monitor since it requires cycling
the monitor on and off. At any rate, all is now well.

Many Dell monitors have poorly implemented USB hubs -- From what I can
tell, they're either not grounded properly, or commonly have a ground
fault loop.
