After working okay for a couple of days, Vista suddenly refuses to run.
After the statement that it is preparing the desktop, it presents an error
message stating that the software licensing service has reported that rights
consumption failed and gives the error code I stated in the subject line.

I have searched the internet and so far cannot find any other reference to
this problem. Anyone have a suggestion short of throwing away all my work so
far and reinstalling?

Thanks,

Geo

I downloaded and installed Beta 2 and I'm having the same problem. When I
bott into safe mode, I'm told that my activation has expired! Why would I
get an expiration error 1 day after activating the product? Any fixes?

Thanks much,
Kris

I've run into the same issue. When I enter safe mode, the error changes and
says that the activation period has expired (after one day?!?). I
downloaded, installed, and activated Sunday (6/25/2006). Will a
reinstall/reactivation fix?

Thanks,
Kris

I went ahead and reinstalled. So far all is going well. Haven't seen the
error code/message yet. I would just reinstall if I were you.

I hit F8 like in XP. However, I noticed Vista goes into safe mode much more
quickly than in XP so one has to be a little more alert.

I am experiencing the same issue...
I surely hope that there'll be a fix for this issue.
It is annoying to (re-)install windows all th time.

I solved the problem by reinstalling and reactivating vista ...
I surely hope that this also helps you.

But I'd really like to know how this error originates and if there's a more
comfortable solution
