Cocked up me HD

Hi folks,
Last nite trying to partitionme HD i managed to interrupt operations(more like the software froze up) and now all i have is a black screen telling me to reboot with restore cd.When i do it does nowt. Donald ducked. Any ideas as to whats next??

Hello,


What software did you use? Are you able to boot into Safe mode at all? If you have a proper windows disk then you could try a repair install first. Sounds as if something has got corrupted.

Getting there

Hi WizThanks for gettin back to me again. I used Paragon Partition Manager. Last nite i rooted out me back updisc that i made a couple of weeks ago when i got this laptop. If you can remember back this is my 3rd laptop since Jan 24th.
Anyway i'm somewhat back in business after i first did a windows system repair followed by a vista reinstall followed by a destructive restore. Now the pc is running again but there is a couple of issues i need to sort....the colours are out of whack,stuff is freezing on screen. For instance if i right click an copy on something the copy icon freezes on screen until i right click it again even though it has been there for ages. Also my cursor doesn't flash when i'm typing anymore. A lot of liitle things doin mad stuff.I have tried scanning and nothing appears to be showing up. I have some basic learning to do.
Will keep you guys posted and thanks again.

I know it was april fools yesterday lads but seriously man i meant scanning with an antivirus program to see if had any viruses on board.....LOL...also the little smilies arent moving on my screen...any ideas ??

Check the updates

Do you have all of the 22,000 updates installed? Also make sure you Adobe Flash (latest version 10)
 
Hi folks looks like there was some updating done lastnite and things are looking better today.....the screen has a bit of life in it. Is there any way i can save these settings???

Ghost image

You can make a ghost image once everything is working properly, then, if or when it goes nuts you just restore the ghost image instead of installing everything from scratch. I have a Maxstor 1TB USB drive I use to backup my stuff and it comes with the ability to save ghost images and software on the CD to use to restore these images.

Thanks for the reply.....i dont have a back up maxtor hard. Is yours pc powered or does it run from mains....if its pc powered i'd like to get one How much did it cost ya if you dont mind me aksin??
