Hello all,
I have some conflicts in our Win2000 integrated DNS. One RootDNSServers and
two under our Domain name. What's the best way to deal with these? Should I
delete the earliest created or should I just follow the saying,"if it ain't
broke, don't fix it".
Thanks in advance

Where do you see the errors? In ADUC or in ADSI Edit?

By "RootDNSServers", does that mean the forest root domain DCs? What are the
two under "our domain name"? Is there a Windows 2003 DNS in the mix?

I would say if there are conflicts, you can safely deleted the older
reference, but if you are seeing conflicting zone names in the AD database,
then I will be willing to bet there is a more serious issue with replication
going on.

Can you be more descriptive please? Post any Event ID errors too, along with
how many DCs, domains, is it a single label name, etc.

Thanks

Hi Ace,
Thanks for the help.
These show up in ADUC. There are no 2003 servers in the mix, all 2000
servers. We've got 5 DC's distributed among 5 sites. Our domain name is
"domain".com. In ADUC These entries show up under the MicrosftDNS tab. I've
got 3 entries with our domain name. Two with the CNF object. Also, there are
two entries for RootDNSServers, one with the CNF object. DCDiag, NETDiag show
no errors, and repadmin /showreps shows all successful. We have only a single
domain.
Thanks again for the help Ace.

No prob Gary. I would say to go ahead and delete them, since the system
already identified them as conlifcting names, it is ignoring them. It could
have been caused by rep errors at one time, or someone trying to create the
zone on another DC when the zone was already created. Usually we don't want
to do that because the zone will auto show up on the other DCs as long as
DNS is installed on them. If someone created the zone, and there's different
data on it, the system will think it's a dupe.
