I've gotten this at least 3 times now, and I have to go in to reset
the clock. Also, there are times when the computer will shut down and
restart by itself. I was planning on redoing Windows, but is this
something worse?

Thanks again to all for the help!

The CMOS checksum error is usually caused by a failing battery on the
motherboard. This is quick and easy and inexpensive to replace.

Unplug the PC. Open the case, locate the battery and read the model type
printed on it. You can often find these batteries in places like
pharmacies, in the watch and calculator battery section. Shouldn't be more
than a few dollars.

Remove the battery, and while it's out see if you can find the CMOS CLEAR
jumper. Move that, move it back, put the battery back in, close the case
and restart the PC. Go into Setup and adjust settings as needed. You're
done.
