What is the advantage of creating a file share resource?
If I can cluster the entire disk, why should I take extra
steps to create file share resources if the disk is
already clustered?

You don't need to create the file share resource unless you actually
want users to be able to map to the disk resource. For example, if this
is a SQL cluster, then it's very possible you don't need the file share
resource. If you do need users to be able to map, be sure you create
the share via the Cluster Manager and not via the native tools.
