Hi

HW:
Compaq Proliant DL380 Packaged Cluster

Problem:
We Installed and configured Cluster on both nodes
initially and everything worked fine. Cluster is hosting
SQL and Lotus Notes, failover worked perfectly.

After running for approx 6 months the quorum log corrupted
due to lack of space as the user installed Veritas and the
OFO cache file ended up on the quorum disk.
The problem was fixed by us and all was well.
A few weeks ago the quorum log corrupted again after a
McAffe update. This time the user decided to fix this
himself.
The IT guy went on holiday and we were called in as
failover to node2 was not working.
We found Node 1 running without a quorum log. We fixed
this and moved the log to a seperate disk. Node 1 and the
cluster was fine but, Cluster service would not start on
node 2.
Querying the Microsoft Knowledge base we checked
all we could no luck.(service account permissions, dns,
etc etc)
We uninstalled cluster installation from node2 to
reinstall, don't work
We finally decided to do a clean install on node 2 to see
if that cleared the problem but no same error. The disk
with the original install of node2 was put back in place

The error is when you try to configure the cluster on
node2, the cluster install utility asks who you are
connecting as (administrator) it asks if this is a new
cluster or are you joining an existing cluster, we give
the name of the existing cluster, and on the next screen
it asks what account the cluster uses for the service
account.
There is three fields where the top and bottom fields are
greyed out. first field is the name of the account
(format: (e-mail address removed)) the next the password and the
last is the domain (format: (e-mail address removed)), and this is
what I think is the error I don't have the option of
correcting the domain format as the box is greyed out,
because once I key in the password, which I know is
correct, I get a message the account or domain is not
found.
The "fault" obviously originates with node1 running the
cluster, but I can't find where the information in the
greyed boxes come from. I have searched the registry,
the "cluster hive" and everywhere else I know, and I don't
really fancy re doing the cluster from scratch.

Does anybody have any Ideas ?? I would be very grateful
for any reply

Kind Regards

Alex Andresen

This information is kept on Node 1. The Cluster
Service, Log on tab, is where this is located. The
format should be domain\user instead of (e-mail address removed)

Thanks a lot, I will try on Monday
