Closing Programs

Is there an easy way to "close" all programs running when
I need to install a program? In Windows Task Manager, it
shows no applications, but many, many "processes"
running. When I try to "exit" MS Messenger, it tells me
that other programs are running that are using this
feature. Had no trouble "ending task" using Ctrl|Alt|Del
with Windows ME.

Thanks, in advance!

Typically you don't need to close running processes. Instalation programs always ask to close programs, not processes, to avoid any conflicts with files beeing in use. Some setup programs may want to disable antivirus software for the time of installation, but this can be done simply through system tray icon. In my opinion you should not touch running processes

Concerning MS Messenger - it always starts together with MS Outlook, so if you close Outlook, Messenger will close itself or, if not, you'll be able to do close it manually.

Thanks, Franksta! I will check out these articles.

To Bostaf: I DID close Outlook, yet it still showed two
envelopes in the System Tray and showed MS Messenger
still opened. I just removed MS Messenger from my startup
folder (msconfig), because I rarely use it.
