In previous Windows Operating systems, when I installed a
new program, I would close all other programs by using
control, alt, delete and then ending task. I don't know
how to do this in Windows XP. Whenever I install a new
program, the instructions always say close all open
programs. How do you do this? Thanks

Usually this is not necessary, but to be on the safe side it is
sufficient to close all applications that are open on the Taskbar.
Right-click the Taskbar buttons and select "Close". Then right-click
the icons in the Notification Area next to the clock and close them as
well. You should not shutdown your virus scanner if you run such
software in the background, of course.
