Closing one window causes Log Out in another

This happens on every web site I log in to. After I log in to a site, if I
close any other IE window at any time while I'm logged in, then I am
automatically logged out of the site. This problem with Internet Explorer is
preventing me from completing a requirement of my job.

For example, if I log in to Yahoo Mail and click on a link in an email from
Amazon, a 2nd window opens for the Amazon link. If I close the 2nd window,
and try to read the next email in the 1st window, it goes to the page that
says my login has expired.

A second example is a web-based program called dotProject. This program is
a tool to track what I do during the day at my job. To set the start or end
date for a task, I have to select the date from a calendar popup, click OK
(which closes the popup), and then click "Save" on the main page. But that
always fails because I was logged out when I closed the calendar popup, and
it takes me to the login screen instead.

I've tried searching for help on the Internet and on the Microsoft web site,
but searching for "always get logged out" or "closing an Internet Explorer
window" doesn't return useful results.

I've already tried resetting all of my Internet options to defaults, turning
on all cookie permissions, and installing all IE security updates.

Hi,
I haven't heard of this exact problem, but I'd start by looking for malware.
Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

If this doesn't help, post back. Someone else may have another idea.
