Closing notebook monitor switches desktop to connected 2nd monitor

Hey folks,

I'm having a bit of an issue with how Windows Vista (or my ASUS notebook)
handles closing my notebook lid. If I have an external monitor (my TV
through S-Video) connected to my laptop, but not used, and I close my
notebook lid, it switches over to the TV automatically -- changing the
desktop resolution from 1440x990 (my notebook resolution) to 1024x768 (the TV
resolution).

When I open my laptop lid, the desktop is displayed on both notebook monitor
and TV, at 1024x768 resolution. This lower resolution moves around all my
desktop icons, and it's painfully annoying to go back into the Display
Settings to change the settings back again.

I've disabled Microsoft TMM (the multi-monitor thingy) from my Task
Scheduler as someone pointed out, in resolve some other issues I was having
with Extending the Desktop.

Anyone out there with any kind of solution to this?

I realize it's difficult to see which group you are posting in from the web
forum, but you've asked in a .NET programming group, not the Vista group you
need.
The group you want is:

microsoft.public.windows.vista.general

If you have difficulty finding the appropriate group on the web forum list,
you may want to consider setting up a news account in your Windows Mail to
better access newsgroups. Create a news account (Tools->Accounts... , then
Add... News Account ) Server you want is msnews.microsoft.com

The account requires no login or password. Once you have the account, you'll
be prompted to download the list of available groups. You can then "join"
the groups that interest you.

Have you contacted Asus tech support about this?
 
You need to find a newsgroup with the word "windows" in it.

This is a newsgroup for developers/software engineers who create products in
Microsoft programming languages.
 
While this is the wrong group, the issue is in the setup. YOu can control a
lot of how monitors are used via the setup.

Now, the big question, however, is "what do you want the laptop to do when
you close it?" If go into sleep mode, you will have to set it that way.

Sorry everyone. I thought I chose a Vista General Discussion group. I'll be
more careful next time.

I've already set the monitor settings to "do nothing" when closing the lid.
Which is also something that's confusing for me (as to why it does what it
does).
