Closing multiple windows

In a previous thread, I mentioned this problem in Firefox.

I saw this today in Lockergnome bulletin:
"Quickly Closing Multiple Windows
If you use the Internet but do not have any software running that will block
pop-ups, you have probably visited a Web site only to sit back and watch as window
after window continues to appear. The neat thing is you don’t even have to do
anything, they just automatically pop up.
Of course you can sit there and manually close all the annoying intrusions as they
invade your desktop and watch as more appear. Or you can use a simple keystroke
that will close the open windows. By pressing CTRL + W, the active window will be
closed. The nice thing about this keystroke is that it won’t close all the open
windows (you may actually want to view some
of them still). Or if you want to close all open windows, right click the group of
Web pages on the task bar and click Close Group."

That describes what happened to me, but the functions don't sound like Firefox, is
this IE or OE?

Is there a standalone program that will do this?

Hi _ms_,

In FF too, Ctrl+W closes a tab and Ctrl+Shift+W closes a window.

(not sure however to have understood the question ;) )

I'll sure try that the next time IE explodes all over my FF screen.

MYIE2 has a red "Close All" icon which is very useful in dealing with the endless popup windows you described.

IE New Window Maximizer will close all windows with a hotkey. In addition,
it will maximize all new IE windows and block popups, among other features.

CloseAll

Closes all open windows with a single click on an X in the System Tray.
I've often found it useful.

Thanks, that's just what I was looking for.

I haven't seen the multiple windows of the other day, so I tried it while online
at a website. It takes me offline and out of my desktop shell to the basic desktop
screen. Is there a way to select or limit the closings?

No, I don't think it's configurable. Useful for closing everything at
once if you have many windows open. Very useful for dealing with the
"hailstorm" of continuous pop-ups as described in the original message.

For more selective window closing, there's always Alt+F4

I guess I don't understand the issue. What's preventing OP from
selecting a decent web browser and then actually (dare I say it?)
learning how to configure it properly?

Read my original post.

Firefox *IS* an excellent browser, it *IS* configured properly, the IE problem
happened when IE was not running at the time.

You sound like someone who thinks IE is a decent browser. I know better.
