After I close down Outlook 2007 it still appears in Processes. If I try to
re-open it another entry appears in Processes but the program does not open.

Is there something I can do to put this right?

How long are you waiting? I've noticed that OL2007 takes a while (a minute
or two) to finalize everything before the process ceases

Outlook 2007 definately has problems with closing down. I am having the same
problem. Vince is correct about LO2007 taking more time than older versions
to close down. There are times it will finally close down in about 30 sec. up
to 1 minute. But there are times I have left my computer after closing OL and
come back several hours later and the process has not ended yet and I don't
believe it ever would unless I manually end it.

I have searches the KB and multiple times and it appears Microsoft is
unaware of this issue or at least not working on it. Any ideas on why this
would be happening?

Im experiencing this problem as well, both with Windows XP Pro and Windows XP
tablet edition, and its happening all the time. The biggest issue with it for
me is that outlook seems to continue downloading emails while being
"semi-closed" and when I shut down the process it risks corrupting data :S
....

I can't believe SP-1 has come out and Outlook 2007 still has that huge flaw!

Having looked around on the web for a solution to the problem I have drawn a
Blank.
Outlook 2007 closes the GUI and remains running a process "Outlook.exe" as
can be seen in the Task manager. Leaving these for a 24 hour period it still
does not shut down completely. When opening Outlook again it fails to run and
I end up with 2 x "Outlook.exe" in the task manager but none openly running
on the desktop.
If I End the oldest process this allows Outlook to start up again, it does
however say that it did not close properly and will have to check the data
file. I am running this on a Vista Premium (Office 2007) and a XP Pro (Office
2007 with Business Manager). Same in both cases. Doing a search for this
problems shows that it is not an Isolated incident and is occuring accross a
number of Windows OS's. But all with Outlook 2007. After contacting MS they
have said there is no known issues with outlook and closed the case but
indicated it was likely a 3rd party software preventing the application
closing. So to cover off any known issues is anybody here running Norton 360
with there outlook 2007?
Cheers.

I am running two computers with Windowx XP and Outlook 2003 and Norton IS
2006 or 07, depending on the system and have the same problem ALL THE TIME.

I also am using the SHare O program and am wondering if this is an issue.

Any suggestions?

I'd never trust a Symantec program.

Ssince ShareO keeps an instance of Outlook open for any computer that is accessing it, I would certainly suspect that is the cause.

what do you use for internet security and spam....stuff.

I use AVG (and NOD32 is good also) for antivirus. My POP server is
excellent at weeding out most junk, so my Outlook never sees it. That which
is does see is usually handled by the Outlook Junk E-mail filter. what gets
by those two filters is little enough bother that I just click Delete. On
some PCs I use the built-in Windows firewall and on others I use Zone Alarm.
I also employ Windows Defender, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware 2007.
Nothing, however, integrates with Outlook. There's no need.

ShareO does not keep MS Outlook open. It acts as plug in therefore it should
close with MS Outlook. However you can allways contact our tech support to
check the issue by clicing LiveHelp button on our webiste at www.4team.biz.

I have the exact same problem on my home computer and on my office computer.
It began as soon as I "upgraded" from Office 2003 to Office 2007. The
problem has NOTHING to do with Norton. I vowed two years ago NEVER to use
Norton again, so my anti-virus on my home computer is McAfee (I do not have
Norton at work either). Outlook consistently refuses to shut down.

Are you SURE it's not McAfee? Absolutely sure?

And McAfee is known to cause the problem as well. If you scan incoming
mail, uninstall McAfee and reinstall it without the mail scanning feature.
