Can anyone help me,How to close a port in Windows2000 pro.
I keep getting pop-up banners saying that one of my ports
is open and my IP address is being sent out over the net.
Is there a way to close the port or stop the Messerage
Service that is in Windows?

Your IP is always being sent all over the Internet, if it wasn't,
remote computers wouldn't know how to send you web pages, e-mails etc.
What kind of pop-ups are they? Are they full of graphics or are they
just a rectangular gray dialog box?

The gray box pop-ups are probably "Messenger spams". You can stop
these by firewalling UDP port 135.
Another solution would be to disable Messenger if you don't use it:
Start | Programs | Admin Tools | Services | Right click "Messenger"
--> Properties --> "Stop" Then select "Disable"

You can stop browser popups by disabling Java Script and or ActiveX
from within your browser.
