Close Applications by middle-clicking taskbar button

Hello,
I'm using Windows XP Pro. Is there any way to get my applications closed by
middle-clicking the taskbar button of that application as we do in IE 7 for
tabs?
 
Middle clicking on a Taskbar Button to close it may not be possible as it is
used to Minimize an application.

Right-click Taskbar button and clicking Close is also a fastest way. ALT+F4
to close an active window.

Thanks for that reply. How did you get that feature of minimizing a window
on middle click? Is it from the mouse settings from control panel?
 
This is the default behavior of Windows. You don't need to configure it from
any where. Avaiable since Windows 95.

PC although I have XP Pro. When Iperform this action nothing happens.
 
Ok! So you were mispronounce the word. It should be "Middle clicking on a
Taskbar Button to Minimize a Windows doesn't work".

There are many Taskbar repair utilities available. I don't know which one
will exactly work for you. I think you should try the:

1. Line No. 117 - Left Hand Side - "Restore Taskbar and Start Menu"
2. Line No. 164 - Left Hand Side - "Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality"
3. Line No. 195 - Right Hand Side - "Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar"
4. Line No. 298 - Left Hand Side - "Taskbar Repair Tools Plus!"

Just click the link and run the file.

Try one by one. See which one applies to you and let us know!
 
Kohli Saheb I did not miswrote the word I want the window to be closed on
middle clicking its button in the taskbar not minimize. You wrote in your
first response "Middle clicking on a Taskbar Button to close it may not be
possible as it is
used to Minimize an application". That is why I afterwards asked you how did
you got that feature of minimizing but originally I want to close the window.
 
Ok! Here is a little bit information you need to understand. Middle clicking
on a Taskbar Button is used to Minimize or Restore a running application.
This is the default behavior of Windows and don't need any additional
settings. This is the fastest way to minimize and restor a running
application.

You want to close the application by middle clicking the taskbar button
which maybe not be possible. Atleast not just by single clicking the taskbar
button. You can right-click on the taskbar button and click Close or you can
use ALT+F4 key to close the active Window.

There are 100s of utilities available for managing Taskbar button. Maybe one
of them has an option to close a taskbar button but I am sure that it will
also not with a single click. Because doing this can cause a lot of trouble.
We usually use taskbar buttons for Minimizing or Restore and even for
switching between multiple applications. Suppose, if any tweaks change this
behavior then switching will be more tough. We have to use ALT+TAB key each
time to move between Taskbar button which will be more annoying.

You are 100% wrong on this Raj. This is not the default behaviour of windows. You can
do that,maybe, because of your mouse driver(or a 3rd party utitlity). Try a clean
boot and see if you can still middle click to minimize/restore window !

Sir actually he was thinking that I'm talking about clivking with left mouse
buutton on taskbar buttons of windows that are open in the 'middle of the
taskbar'(middle clicking).

I'm really sorry for my unclear question and next time I'll try to work more
upon my statements. Sir, Thank you very much for that hard job you have done
to save me from doing a hard job several times. That's a really appreciable
work but I have come to know of late that this action is possible by the
Microsoft Mouse software update 6.1 available on Microsoft Hardware site.
Anyway, thank you very much once again.
 
Thats not fair. You are very mentioning it now "middle mouse button". I was
thinking that you were asking about "middle clicking (the left mouse button)
on a taskbar button". Just misunderstanding.

Download 32-bit versio. Install it. Will run in your System Tray.
Double-click the icon in your system tray (near the clock to open it). Set
"Middle Button" action to Close - Alt+F4. Now click the Middle button on any
taskbar button and it will closed.

I try a clean boot and I was still able to do that task. By the way, I don't
think that any Mouse drivers (as you said) may not have this basic
functionality.

No. You can use this software without any update. I am currently using it and
I haven't downloaded anything else.
