After Michael nudged me into getting my SATA drives working, I decided to
try cloning my Windows XP IDE volume to the new SATA drive ---- without
buying Ghost or the like.
I downloaded a copy of EasyClone Standard for $20 which claimed to be able
to clone XP. What a piece of crap SW --- IMHO. I had several email
communications with their support people to no avail. Good thing they've got
a 30 day money back guarantee,
While searching the web for "Best Windows XP cloning software", I ran
across a brief reference to Seagate's Diskwizard. A basic version of
Diskwizard is packaged with Seagate drives.
By coincidence I happened to have an old Seagate installation disk so I
decided "What the heck!" and gave it a try. THE DANG THING WORKS! And it
did the job in short order while EasyClone took several hours and got no
further than 8% completed before crapping out.
You can download the latest version from Seagate's site here:
http://tinyurl.com/27y63t It will complain if you try to use it on a
non-Seagate HDD ("We won't offer support.") but functions without problem.
Maybe this is old news to many of you but I couldn't find any good leads for
such free SW. Now I can rest!
Cheers
