Cloning a faulty drive

I have a faulty drive which I'd like to salvage some data from. I've
tried to use Drive Image to clone onto a good drive but it just sulks
and won't copy anything. Any suggestions for a cheap (or free)
alternative clone program that will at least attempt to copy a duff
drive?

TIA,

Dave

Do a search on Ebay for "Norton Ghost." I see some low prices for Ghost
2003.

Which Drive Image version? Which Windows version? What file system?
If version = Drive Image 5 or 2002 (6), try a rescue disk based clone

PQDI /IFC /IRE and create a copy containing the probably sector based
errors

If the clone (copy) process succeeds on the new drive, run either a SCANDISK
or CHKDSK /f afterwards on the copied partition...

Good Luck

Does your drive properly detected by BIOS, and is there any readable
sectors? May be, there is a problem which does not allow to read in
the software way at all. What is a drive model and what are faulty
symptoms?

I think DI has an option you can set to ignore duff sectors when making a
backup image file.

The Linux tool "dd_rescue" was designed especially for this.
It is part of the Knoppix CD system. Knoppix is a Linux distro
designed to run non-intrusively from CD only.

For docu: google(dd_rescue), google(knoppix).
